Na zijn zeer goede prestatie in Zweden mag Duval in Corsica als beloning opnieuw met een WRC aan de slag.
Ford will give Belgian starlet Francois Duval his head for the Tour of Corsica as a reward for finishing 10th on the Swedish Rally.
Duval had never competed in a World Rally Car before, but more than lived up to Ford’s expectations by guiding the car into the top 10 without a trace of drama.
“I must admit, we were all very impressed,” Ford Director Malcolm Wilson stated. “He did exactly what we asked of him. He was no problem, he didn’t get carried away. I think the best way to sum it up is he was very level-headed.
“Put it this way: in Corsica, I’m basically leaving him to his own devices. I’m giving him the decision as to what he wants to do and I’ll not be concerned – OK, I don’t want him to have an accident – but the ball is in his court on that one. The other ones I will take a view on. Obviously, Finland, things like that, he will be under orders again as he was in Sweden.”
Duval’s 2002 programme involves a mixture of Focus and Puma World Championship drives, but Ford intends to give him a shot at the full world series in a WR Car in 2004.
