Jordan driver Giancarlo Fisichella was injured this morning when he crashed heavily into a tyre barrier at over 200kph in a practice session for this weekend's French Grand Prix. The Italian driver's EJ12's front wing hit a kerb before coming away going underneath the car causing the driver to speed off the track and plunge into the tyre barrier.
Fisichella had to be helped out of his car and was transferred to the medical support vehicle clutching his right arm. A few minutes later, he was taken by helicopter to the hospital in Nevers for further examination.
The 29 year old has scored six points this season with three consecutive fifth places at the Austrian, Monaco and Canadian Grand Prix races but today wasn't his day as the session was held up almost a half-hour while the tyre barrier was repaired. There is official qualifying later today, however it is still unclear if Giancarlo will be taking part. More news as it comes to hand.
