Opel to test DTM car on Nordschleife
Successful run could pave way for 24 Hours assault
Strycek will test out the Nordschleife this weekend in the DTM car
Opel could launch an attack on next year's Nurburgring 24 Hours with its DTM Astra V8 Coupe.
The German manufacturer's motorsport boss, former DTM champion Volker Strycek, will participate in this weekend's round of the Langstrecken Meisterschaft on the daunting Nordschleife circuit that plays host to the 24 hour event each July.
He will drive Team Holzer's test car, which is painted in the livery that Michael Bartels uses in the DTM. Manuel Reuter used the chassis in the oval test at EuroSpeedway Lausitz recently.
"This is the first step towards deciding if we are able to take part in the 24 Hours with such a car," said Strycek. "We will gather information this weekend, nothing more. Whether or not we will be actually starting in the race has yet to be seen.
"I am convinced that the DTM Opel will enthuse the great number of fans along the Nordschleife. The conditions of the track can't be compared with any other circuit."
