Formula One's governing body, the FIA, have confirmed that a two-hour test session on Friday will become an integral feature of each Grand Prix weekend from 2003. The organisation revealed today that 'a sufficient number of teams' have agreed to participate in the scheme, which will limit those taking part to an additional ten days testing away from the Grands Prix. The deadline for teams to lodge their support was yesterday (Sunday), and it was necessary for at least three supportive parties to come forward for the alteration to the Friday schedule to be given the green light.

Although a statement from the FIA did not confirm the teams who will take part, it is no secret that Minardi were a front-runner in campaigning for the new session. Sauber today confirmed that they would not be participating, contrary to popular belief, although Jordan and Jaguar were also said to be keen to sign up. Ferrari, Williams, McLaren, Renault and Toyota are to carry on their current arrangement which allows them to conduct unrestricted testing mileage at several authorised venues throughout the season.
