All races in North America on confirmed calendar

Plans for the American Le Mans Series to make a return to Europe in 2003 have been canned.

A 10-event schedule has been published and all the races will be held at North American venues. The only circuit that will be new to the series is the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City.

A European race had been pencilled in for May, between the time of the traditional pre-practice for the Le Mans 24 Hours and the blue riband classic itself, run in mid-June.

ALMS president Scott Atherton said: "Although there has been a great deal of interest, unfortunately we have not been able to confirm a sanction agreement with an appropriate venue or event organizer to hold a European round in 2003.

"The combination of many European tracks experiencing serious financial challenges, coupled with the general state of European sportscar racing has prevented us from confirming an acceptable arrangement for the ALMS and its participants."
