Reigning DTM champion team Abt Sportsline is to evaluate a campaign in this year's Nurburgring 24 Hours at the end of May.

One of its DTM stars, Christian Abt, will drive a modified DTM-spec Audi TT-R in testing and qualifying for this weekend's VLN BFGoodrich LangstreckenMeisterschaft event around the Nurburgring's daunting Nordschleife layout. The revised car is heavier than the DTM version, and features a raised ride height and strengthened components.

"We are thinking about contesting the Nurburgring 24 Hours," said a team spokesman. "We are not sure if Christian will actually contest the race this weekend. We want to put the car on the track and see how it works."

Opel will also field an ex-DTM Astra V8 Coupe in this weekend's race. It has yet to officially confirm its entry in the 24 Hours, but it is thought certain to run at least two cars up against the might of BMW's works Team Schnitzer entry.
