Leinders smashed Zolder lap record
Zolder : First Practice [24/04/03 - 17:24]
Local hero Bas Leinders has set an impressive lap this afternoon during the last session of the Collective Tests held at Zolder. The best timed lap of the Circuit since the new layout dated from 2001 (Biagi Lola Zytec 1.25.91 (166.636 km/h). Leinders has demolished this mark by lapping 1.21.540 (175.6 km/h).
The Frenchman Franck Montagny has been the second fastest driver today, just 1 tenth of a second behind Leinders, while the Young Finnish driver, Heikki Kovalainen has bee the third best.
Almost 13 drivers were packed in the same second, but actually all the 20 drivers were running below the former official record lap.
Vilariño (Epsilon-Euskadi) , currently third in the Superfund World Series by Nissan, showed good progression with the 4th best register of the day. The veteran Burgueño was 5th, while Sarrazin, Siedler, Jouanny , Ravier and Kartikheyan complete the list of the ten best drivers.
Bernoldi has signed a new deal with GD Racing that will allow him to stay in this category. The Brazilian former F1 driver made an excellent debut with RC Motorsport achieving 1 pole position and one podium but the Team's lack of budget made it impossible to keep the Brazilian. Obviously Enrique employed a lot of time in new set up of the car. RC Motorsport has signed an agreement with another Brazilian driver, the young Formula Renault driver, Carlos Pereira, who has made a good debut in the Series by finishing 11th. His team mate Polo Villaamil suffered a big crash during the morning session but the driver wasn't damaged.
Marc Gené (Adrián Campos Motorsport) hopes to reduce the gap with his companions. The Spanish F1 driver will get in the track tomorrow after three days of testing with the BMWWilliamsF1 in Silverstone. Once again, the young ETTC Spanish driver, Antonio García, was on duty today.
