KSO, promoter of the FIA European Touring Car Championship, and Eurosport, organised a meeting with the promoters of the major national Touring Car championships in Europe. It was the first time in the history of Touring Car racing that such a meeting was organized. At this meeting, which was held on July 29th, at the Eurosport headquarters in Paris, were:

- Angelo CODIGNONI, President and CEO of Eurosport
- Jacques BEHAR, Chairman of SRW Events
- Jonathan ASHMAN, President of FIA Touring Car Commission
- Marcello LOTTI, promoter of the FIA European Touring Car Championship
- Alfredo SCALA, ACI Sport Italia

Alan Gow, promoter of the British Touring Car Championship was also invited, but he could not attend due to a previous commitment. Mr. Gow and Mr. Lotti had a separate meeting in London on July 21st.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss a common strategy for the future of the Touring Car competition. The basic points which emerged during the meeting were:

The will of the national Touring Car championships to adopt the FIA Super 2000 technical regulations, which are currently used for the FIA European Touring Car Championship.

- the Swedish Touring Car Championship had already adopted the S2000 regulations from the current season, although with the allowance of a few modifications homologated on a national basis

- the Danish Touring Car Championshipx will adopt the S2000 technical regulations from 2004

- the Italian Touring Car Championship is ready to allow the S2000 cars to race together with the Super Production cars currently in use, in two separate classes from 2004

- the British Touring Car Championship will accept the S2000 cars from 2004, alongside the currently used BTC cars

- the Deutsche Tourenwagen Challenge intends to move to the S2000 technical regulations in two steps within two years (2004 and 2005).

· the aim of running, from 2004 onwards, joint events with the FIA European Touring Car Championship and the national Touring Car championships in the same race.

At the end of the meeting, Mr Lotti commented: "I believe that today we have moved a step forward to unifying the concept of Touring Car racing on an international basis under the FIA rules, for the joint benefit of the FIA European Touring Car Championship, the national Touring Car series, the Manufacturers and the competitors."

Komen de glorie dagen van mid-jaren '90 terug? Wellicht met een World Cup.

Vergeet niet dat de stap naar een WK het fantastische EK heeft doodgemaakt.
Maar we blijven hopen een heropleving van dat EK.
