Final ALMS Points
With so much happening during the actual race, and the exhaustion that set in afterwards, we haven't got round to presenting the final points tables - until now. Tom Kjos did acknowledge the winners though, in his item from the ALMS Banquet, posted yesterday.
In summary, Marco Werner nearly threw it away but didn't, JJ Lehto did everything he and Johnny Herbert could but just fell short, and Audi was the undisputed 900 Manufacturer Champion.
Jason Workman had high hopes at one point during the race, but the newer Lolas came hom first and second, while the older one retired - giving Chris Dyson the 675 honours. But what a story Jon Field made of it at the last race.
David Brabham pipped Oliver Gavin and Kelly Collins for runner-up spot in GTS, Gavin's disbelief at his car's misfortunes recently contrasting with Brabham's joy at his and Prodrive's run of success. That wasn't enough to pip Corvette for the Manufacturer title - not quite. It couldn't have been any closer, and it's been a classic GTS season.
In GT, the end of season win for #24's regulars vaulted them into a secure second, ahead of Risi and Petersen-White Lightning, the latter's accident at PLM seeing them out of the runner-up race and ending up behind Cort Wagner and Kevin Buckler too.
Ron Fellows / Johnny O'Connell and Lucas Luhr / Sascha Maassen were the GTS / GT Champions anyway. These two classes could well be the scene of even more intense rivalry in 2004...
