Renault is on the verge of its first major assault on the World Rally Championship following the results of a feasibility study carried out by the French manufacturer.
Renault's motorsport technical director, Olivier Maroselli, has admitted that the marque has been looking at the top class of the WRC for some time, according to a story in this week's AUTOSPORT Magazine.
“We have been evaluating the series,” he said. “We want to know what it would cost to enter the sport at this level and what it would bring in terms of exposure.
“We now have a view on this; we are not looking at something 10 years away – we are looking at a much shorter time than that.”
Renault would probably use the Megane as its first World Rally Car, but Maroselli declined to confirm that choice.
