dailyf1.com:
McLaren, the former champion team, is reportedly evaluating Irishwoman Sarah Kavanagh for a test role next season.
Kavanagh, 28, has gained useful experience driving late 1990’s model Grand Prix cars in Euro Boss, a UK-based amateur Championship tailored for older machines purchased directly from the teams.
She has also been given a vote of support by F1 Boss Bernie Ecclestone, but most importantly proven herself physically having undergone tests in McLaren’s ‘white room’ driver centre in Woking. McLaren has used this facility for Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard in the past, and senior officials said the results were ‘very good’.
‘There is nothing in her results that suggest that Sarah could not drive a Formula One car right away,’ said McLaren International managing director Martin Whitmarsh.
Previously it has been considered women are physically inferior to men in crucial areas to drive Formula One machinery, particularly in the forearms for heavy steering.
Kavanagh would become the first woman to enter F1 in an official role since Italian Giovanna Amati, who raced for Brabham in 1992 but bowed out early in the season.
‘Last month Bernie Ecclestone told me to never give up and he was right,’ added Kavanagh.
‘As a huge Ayrton Senna fan it was always my dream to drive for McLaren, and hopefully that might now happen.’
McLaren’s official tester will be Austrian Alexander Wurz next year – Kavanagh could be signed as a development driver to work alongside him.
Dat ze senna-fan is kan je zien op de fotos van bovenstaande URl, haar helm lijkt er veel op
