Stage win for Burns

he final of the three continuous stages is the 30.11km long Lopgna – Sarrola
stage. The stage is narrow and twisty on relatively smooth tarmac up to Sarri
d'Orcino. The stage finishes with a fast descent to Sarrola. What makes this
stage rather tricky is that the drivers are using the same tyres that they used
for the past two stages, which means by now the rubber is getting rather worn.
However Richard Burns made the best of his Michelins posting the fastest time
of the stage with an 18:11.6. This marks the Peugeot drivers first stage
victory of the 46th Tour de Corse and moves his back into third place overall
as Tommi Makinen was over 12 seconds slower through the stage.
Second best time belonged to Burn's teammate and rally leader Gilles Panizzi,
who finished 3.8 seconds behind. Panizzi did however extend his lead over
second placed man Marcus Gronholm by a further eight seconds as the Finn could
only manage the sixth best time of the stage.
Carlos Sainz and Colin McRae were third and fourth quickest for Ford, but
neither improved on their positions. However having posted the fifth best time
Philippe Bugalski was able to move into sixth place overall relegating Subaru's
Petter Solberg to seventh.
It was a much better stage for the two Mitsubishi drivers as Francois Delecour
was eighth quickest and Alister McRae ninth. But while Delecour remains in
tenth place McRae was able to move up one place to 12th overall. Hyundai's
Armin Schwarz rounded off the top ten.

Corsica: Makinen out, Panizzi relentless
Peugeot's Gilles Panizzi is relentless in his quest to win the Corsica Rally after winning stage 11 despite the wet conditions. Ford's Colin McRae has moved closer to the points after finishing the stage second (+1.1), with Gronholm third (+2.6) and Bugalski 4th (+3.1). Tommi Makinen retired on Stage 10.

Francois Duval OUT!

The second stage of the final leg is the 31.8km long Pont de Calzola - Agosta Plage stage. There is a marked contrast between the first part of this stage which is extremely fast and the next part which is narrower and twistier. The technically challenging downhill run to the coast features a large number of tight hairpins.

The hairpins claimed their first victim in Ford's Francois Duval. The up and coming youngster crashed out after he had been lying in tenth place overall. However both himself and his co-driver were unhurt in the accident.

SS 15 gecancelled na een crash van mc rae . Hij en grist zijn uit de wagen waren Mc rae zou een hersenschudding hebben.

Wel, Duval kent nu waarschijnlijk de limieten van de Focus WRC. :D Toch een knappe prestatie die aan het leveren was. Spijtig van de crash.
Loix eindigt dan toch nog in de top 10.
Hij zette de laatste dag betere tijden neer. Nog wat afstelling en de Hyundai is er klaar voor.

Wat ik vooral goed vind is dat Freddy na zijn wissel met McRae (junior) toch nog sneller blijkt te zijn. Dus hij heeft geen slechte zaak gedaan.
Ik vind ook wel dat McRae junior een andere co-piloot kan gebruiken dan Senior, want nu is McRae-Senior dus eigenlijk McRae junior...

zeer sterk wat hij daar presteert
ik heb vernomen dat hij colin en carlos al een paar keer heeft geklopt op een spécial, niet?
hoge verwachtingen bij deze kerel

Allezja, leuke rally.
Kd8 na de stand van sennake, waar duval 4e stond van "amaai", maarja swat :)
Toch mooi, ook loix die opt einde zenne draai begon te vinden.

Ik kijk al uit naar de volgende...

Tot aan zijn uitvallen, vond ik het een schitterende race van Duval, die in sommige KP zelfs sneller was dan McRea en Sainz.
Dat hij slechts derde keuze van banden krijgt is wel normaal, maar toch wel jammer, want daardoor heeft hij af en toe wel enkele seconden verloren, maar toch een puike race!!

Voor Loix een "gewone" test-rally op asfalt, denk ik. Duval heeft de Ford-bazen weeral verbaasd met enkele schitterende tijden. Thiry reed geen slechte rally, ik denk dat er voor hem wat weinig officiële Peugeots zijn uitgevallen, waardoor hij niet de beste banden kreeg. Voor mijn top 6 viel vooral Bugalski een beetje veel tegen ...

op vtm gisteren een samenvatting van de rally van corsica gezien.

Duval zo een exploderende band hebben gehad (stond blijkbaar nog niet in deze thread vermeldt). In ieder geval een puike race, en crashen door een mechanisch defect kan hem moeilijk aangewreven worden.

Dat is in de rallysport nog niet zo zeker hoor Airco!
Ik zeg niet dat het op een circuit ook zo is, maar in een rally kan een klapband net zo goed pech zijn als het gevolg van slechte nota's van de co-piloot of een stuur- of inschattingsfout van de piloot die te veel "coupeert".
Ik ga je toch eens moeten meepakken naar een rally denk ik :-)
