Matthias Lauda is slated to follow in his father's famous footsteps when he tries a Formula Three car under the watchful eye of one of Spain's leading teams, prior to embarking on a full season in the Iberian series in 2002.

Lauda Jr has, according to the German press, been living in Barcelona for the past few years, and is keen to establish himself as a serious contender for the top flight by 2005. Although he acknowledges that emulating his triple championship winning father, Matthias is determined to succeed on his own merits.

Al die zonen van grote F1-helden zeggen altijd dat ze het willen maken op eigen houtje en door hun eigen talent. Ze vergeten wel dat ze zonder papa waarschijnlijk geen kans zouden maken om ergens een test te versieren, want dan zouden ze op gelijke voet staan met zoveel andere jonge talenten die nooit doorbreken omdat ze onbekend en dus onbemind zijn en vooral omdat ze geen centen hebben...
Waarmee ik geen afbreuk wil doen aan het talent van de kinderen van F1-piloten (bv Jacques Villeneuve), maar ze zouden hun "instap" in de autosport toch een beetje mogen relativeren vind ik...
