Quote:
McLaren and Michelin have announced that they will join forces for the upcoming 2002 Formula One championship season and beyond, signing a long-term agreement for the supply of tyres and putting an end to all the recent media speculation over the move. The Woking team is hoping that by switching to the French rubber it will help give them the added edge they are looking for against their rivals at Ferrari next year.

Michelin have already proved their increasing strength throughout their first season back in the series after a sixteen year absence, taking four wins out of a possible 17 with the BMW powered Williams outfit. This new relationship between McLaren International and Michelin represents the re-establishment of a previously successful pairing between the two companies, which claimed 17 race wins and the 1984 Formula One Constructors' and Drivers' World Championships.

“I am very pleased to be making this announcement. I have the greatest of respect for the Michelin company and its sporting achievements and believe that we can win World Championships together in the future,” remarked Martin Whitmarsh, Managing Director at McLaren. “We are confident that the technical program envisaged by our respective engineering teams will enable us to achieve a highly competitive partnership in this increasingly important area of our sport. As ever, we will be doing all we can with the help of Michelin and our other technical Partners to win in 2002.”

“Mercedes-Benz and Michelin have a long-standing relationship in the field of tyre equipment for production cars where Michelin is one of our most important partners,” added Norbert Haug, Head of Mercedes. “We are looking forward to a promising good collaboration in Formula One. What Michelin has achieved in their first year after their comeback promises a lot of potential for the future.”

“It is great that McLaren and DaimlerChrysler have rejoined the Michelin family,” concluded Pierre Dupasquier, Motorsport Director at Michelin. “Whilst we are very pleased with what we have achieved this year in Formula One, and are very optimistic for next year, the involvement of a team with the record and skills of McLaren can only increase our optimism.”

Ge kunt geen band in 2 richtingen ontwikkelen he!!
