Formula One world champion driver Michael Schumacher on Tuesday set a new track record at Ferrari's private Fiorano circuit with the Italian stable's new F2002 car, the team announced. Schumacher's new time of 58.378sec surpassed the mark of 58.620sec set by the German driver on Sunday in his first day of testing with the new car.
Schumacher will continue testing on Wednesday at the Mugello track in Tuscany. On Monday the German had said he was 99 percent certain that he would start the new season at Melbourne with the F2002 rather than relying on the F2001.
"In particular I am surprised how reliable it is," said Schumacher. "There have been no problems up to now and we are confident about the future."
