Ferari ace Michael Schumacher may have four world titles to his name, and could possibly equal Juan Manuel Fangio's record of five before he decides to call it quits in his Formula One careeer, but according to former driver Jean Alesi the German is not the best driver in the field. That honour, the Frenchman believes, belongs to new Jordan signing Giancarlo Fisichella despite the Italian having never won a grand prix.
Alesi reckons that Fisichella is the most naturally talented driver on the grid these days, beating the likes of Schumacher and 2001 runner-up David Coulthard. The only difference is that the Italian has never been given the right car in which he can demonstrate his true potential. But should that happen in the future Alesi has complete faith that Fisichella's natural talent will come through and he would be a championship contender.
Alesi was quoted in the British press as having said: "I honestly think Giancarlo is better than Michael in terms of natural talent: he has incredible car control and an ability to concentrate on strategy without losing speed. Except in terms of working to maximise his potential – which Michael does best – Giancarlo is the best driver in Formula 1."

en Alesi kan het weten, da's ne kenner ! Die bevestigt 100% mijn mening dat Fisichella een zwaar onderschat talent is die nooit de goede auto onder z'n achterste kreeg geschoven om te presteren. Als die Jordan, die vrijdag wordt voorgesteld, beter is dan z'n voorgangers, zie ik Fisico's toekomst wreed rooskleurig in. Een overwinning moet er in zitten. Go Fisico !
