In het 10-jarig bestaan van de IRL is dit al het derde dodelijke slachtoffer, of moeten we zeggen: Gelukkig pas het derde dodelijke slachtoffer? Het aantal bijna fatale klappers is ook niet mis in deze klasse. Meest recente gevallen waren Ryan Briscoe en Mario Andretti Snr.
