Dennis feels that because of the wet weather, that gave the drivers little time on a dry track, Ferrari's decision to use last season's car was the perfect choice. The reason being that the Italian stable was able to use data they had collected with the car at the 2001 Australian Grand Prix which gave them an advantage over the rest of the field, who were all using their new 2002 cars.
Dennis told the Independent: "If you had brought your 2001 car, the first thing you'd be happy to get would be changeable weather in practice and qualifying which gave everyone little running time on a dry track. The people with new cars were at a disadvantage. I think that we have built a very good car this year, but the conditions didn't help us."

Dennis verklaart de voorsprong van een seconde van Ferrari op de concurrentie aan de hand van het regenweer.
Stel dat bij gewoon weer het verschil een halve seconde was + het voordeel van de Bridgestone banden bij koudere temperaturen erbij gerekend, dan zouden we (ondermeer dankzij de Michelins) in Maleisië en vooral in Brazilië (waar Ferrari vorig jaar lang niet de snelste was) toch terug competitie kunnen krijgen...net als Schumacher zelf ook een beetje verwacht.
De hoop niet opgeven mannen, we hebben nog een spannend seizoen 2002 voor de boeg !
