Courage enter FIA Sportscars.(03/04/02)


The Courage Competition sportscar team officially announced their 2002 programme at their season launch meeting at the end of last week. The team have entered the FIA Sportscar Championship with a C60 chassis.

Courage have been away from the action for two years but their Paolo Catone designed C60 has raced successfully with both the Pescarolo Sport and Phillipe Gache's SMG teams. Now, though, Yves Courage's Competition team is back and the affable Frenchman is relishing getting back in to battle.

"The FIA Sportscar Championship has good entries, good cars and is becoming more and more interesting'" said Courage. "We could have a big fight between Dome, Dallara and the Courage chassis this year. I would say that Pescarolo-Sport will be very strong in the early races thanks to the good ratio of reliability/fuel consumption of Sodemo's engine,but we will be in there too I think."

Courage also hinted that a second car could be racing later on in the season:"We are planning to enter one car for the season and perhaps two after the 24 Hours of Le Mans.We are connected with several customers, who are interested in running the Courage chassis for the second part of the season."

The Le Mans based team will kick start their year at Barcelona this weekend with the C60 JX chassis powered by the 4-litre Judd engine.Courage also announced that former Autosport supremo Gianfranco Bielli will engineer their car in Catalunya. Courage are also believed to be drawing up a study in to designing a 675 car in the future.
