First rally in Marocco
X-Raid Motorsport have managed to sign up Gregoire de Mevius as their first driver for the official start of the BMW X5 rally raid on 4thJune 2002 in Morocco. The ex-Nissan works driver and world champion in Group N is recognised as one of the most experienced rally drivers in the business who can not only look back on a successful rally career, but who has also had notable successes in the last three years in off-road racing. Mevius notched up several stage wins in the last Dakar and finished twice in third place in the Master and Orpi Maroc 2001.
De Mevius will be accompanied by Alain Guenhennec, a seasoned co-driver with over fourteen years’ experience in off-road racing in the Citroen team, with whom he has run the Paris-Dakar eleven times. He has a track record both as a navigator and a technician.
De Mevius won 3 stages in the past Dakar but hit mechanical troubles and ended 27th.
