Dit zei Ratel zelf in San Luis:
Don’t expect any new manufacturers in GT1 next year. Alpina’s project to take its BMW Alpina B6 to GT1 hasn’t materialized, as the tuner has not built the minimum number of road cars for FIA homologation (300 production vehicles in a 12-month period). As a result, the car will not be legal for GT1 competition.
Instead, GT3 cars are poised to fill new and vacated manufacturer slots in 2012, when the Aston Martin DBR9, Corvette C6.R and Maserati MC12 reach the end of their lifespan as grandfathered cars. Examples such as Audi’s R8 LMS or the Mercedes SLS AMG could be upgraded to GT1 spec to compete on the world stage.
Expect to see a 10-round championship again in 2011, but with four rounds outside of Europe. One of the races in 2011 will be in Mongolia at the new Ordos International Circuit. There won’t be an American round next year, perhaps in 2012.
