Indy 500 decision should happen this week
Indy boss satisfied with the evidence that has been presented
IRL president Tony George has indicated that he expects to announce his decision on the disputed Indianapolis 500 finish within the next week to 10 days.
George said that he will make his final determination on whether Team Penske's Helio Castroneves or Team Green's Paul Tracy should be the official winner of the race "as soon as it's practical". He also said that he was satisfied that the
appeal hearing over which he presided on June 17 had provided enough information for him to make a decision.
''I have my own advisers that I talk to, but at the end of the day, it's my decision,'' said George.
George had the option under IRL rules of handing off the final responsibility for the decision to an appeals board of racing experts, but decided against it.
''It was an important enough decision that I felt I was the best to handle it,'' he told AP. ''I didn't want to delegate it to anyone else.''
Under league rules, George's determination will be the final decision on the matter.
