Mark Webber has said that team-mate Alex Yoong is out of his depth in Formula 1.

Yoong failed to qualify for last weekend’s German Grand Prix, the third time this season that he has been unable to make the grid.

Webber, who was 1.5s quicker per lap in identical equipment, says the Malaysian has struggled to cope at the sport’s highest level.

He told an ITVF1 live chat: "I've said in the past that I think Alex is a little bit out of his depth in Formula 1.

"If he has a weekend where everything goes right for him, starting from the first practice session, he normally should qualify and race okay.

"But he's had a few problems with some circuits and it can also prove frustrating for the team."

But Webber said that Yoong was still learning and had put in some acceptable performances.

He said: "At some tracks he's done not a bad job! He's learning as much as he can at this stage."

It was reported on Sunday that Yoong will consider his F1 future during the three-week summer break. He may decide to step down before the Hungarian Grand Prix on 18 August.

Yoong’s best F1 finish was seventh in the Australian Grand Prix at the start of the year – but even on that occasion he was three laps down on winner Michael Schumacher and one behind team-mate Webber.

Jaja, dat duurt niet lang meer ! Exit Yoong. Welcome Alonso of Saelens.
