Montoya should toughen up, says Ralf Schumacher wants big step forward from Williams next season
Ralf Schumacher feels team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya should live up to his reputation when it comes to racing head-to-head with his fellow Williams star. Montoya claimed Ralf races harder against himself than any other car on the grid (for separate story click here.), but the German gave the notion short shrift.
"I am a bit surprised actually about what he's on about," he told Reuters. "I mean, he's usually the tough guy - or pretends to be - so it's very surprising for me. If I am trying to gain a position, whether it is with my team-mate or whoever, I don't care."
Schumacher, who took Williams' sole win of 2002 at Malaysia, also called for his team to be more adventurous next season in an effort to catch up with the dominant Ferraris.
"Basically after mid-season we stayed on the same speed and didn't move anywhere. We improved slightly but only on mechanical stuff," he added. "And that's the problem we are having now and facing over the winter, that basically we start from zero and have to risk everything we can to make a proper car.
"I am sure we will take more risks for next year to have something that will bring us a huge step forward, that's what we need."
