He said: "It’s sad that Spa is being removed from the calendar. From a driver’s point of view, Spa is one of the top-three circuits in the world – if not the best. It is made up of great corner after great corner and is a fantastic test of driver and car.
"To see it taken away from a driver’s and spectator’s perspective is a heck of a loss. I’m aware that there were commercial considerations behind the decision but it is a real shame."
The decision means that the 2003 calendar weighs in at just 16 races.
