Bernie Ecclestone held discussions with Zandvoort boss, Hans Ernst over the European GP weekend and indicated that he would visit the circuit later this year.
Zandvoort hosted its first Dutch GP in 1952 and its last in 1985, but according to Hans Ernst they are confident of a re-introduction on the F1 calendar in the near future.
He was quoted: "I have still a good hope that we can get a Grand Prix of Holland back to Zandvoort. We have done all the changes the FIA asked us to. Now we still have to give the FIA at least $11 million to organize it, and we need the local government to support us."
He reportedly also said that they are keen to replace one of the races in either Italy or in Germany as both countries have two GPs on the 2001 calendar. This followed Bernie Ecclestone's admittance after announcing the Russian GP that he would not be extending the existing 17 venues on the calendar, but that one of the existing races would have to make way.
