No Afrika Korps jokes please - this will be VW's works car for the '03 Dakar rally (which incidentally will not finish at Dakar):
Three of these RWD "buggies" (ha ha), powered by the venerable 218hp 1.9l 4cyl. TDI (of rally and endurance touring car pedigree, and complete with catalyst - "Team Green") will take the start, one of them driven by the irrepressible Jutta Kleinschmidt who is now a VW works driver.
"So what's the sportscar connection" - this thing is called the Desert Nardo (you will recall that the experimental W12 supercar initially bore the name Nardo, and made a few successful world record runs at the North Italian track of the same name).
