NASCAR chairman of the board Bill France Jr. unofficially predicted a Toyota in Winston Cup racing by as early as 2007.

"You're trying to read my mail and I'm not going to let you," France said in reply to a question about when he anticipated Toyota's move to Winston Cup. "You know better than to ask a question like that, three years in advance."

Whoops. If Toyota previewed its 2004 entrance into the Truck Series Thursday, that would put a Toyota -- which the head of Toyota Racing Development predicted would be a Camry -- into Winston Cup in 2007.

France spoke after a media gathering to present the 2004-spec Toyota Tundra NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series entry, at Daytona International Speedway.

"I think it'll play good," France said, citing the current 'world economy.' "Ford has a presence in Europe and General Motors has equity both in the Asian and European markets."

He refused, however, to be drawn into any speculation on whether manufacturers such as Honda, Mazda or BMW would consider an entrée into the premier stock car series.

"I don't think I've seen a Honda truck yet," France said.
