According to reports in the Telegraph, the BMW powered Williams Formula One team are set to announce a new multi million dollar sponsorship deal later today. What makes this deal a little more unusual that those secured by their colleagues is that it will be the first anti-tobacco sponsorship arrangement on the grid.
Rivals at Ferrari, McLaren and Renault continue to run heavy tobacco branding and Sir Frank used to run with Rothman's sponsorship. However when the contract came to an end, the Williams team boss refused to sign on any other tobacco giants, shying away from cigarette advertising ahead of the 2005 blackban.
This new deal takes it one step further however with the new sponsor said to be nicotine patch manufacturer Niquitin and the full extent of the new deal, that sees them replacing Veltins, should be announced later today.
"It will be interesting because it is not an insignificant off-car sponsor,” a spokesperson for the team told the Telegraph, without actually confirming or denying Niquitin. “It will have a high level of visibility."
