Walden dominates South Boston 200 - July 7, 2002

SOUTH BOSTON, Virginia -- 200 laps was the distance covered on the track. Scott dominated the race, but the Millenium Collectibles Pole went to Koen van Nevel. He and his brother Bart proved to be the ones to beat at the tight track. They were fast, and out to win. Most of the crowd expected a carnage on the track, but all the drivers proved to be patient enough to have a clean race.

Two cautions came out during the long race, and both made for a great opportunity for pitstops. Sagius took a small gamble by taking only right side tires in the second caution halfway through the race. It did give him the lead for a while, but he was soon forced to face the music and let Walden, and both van Nevel brothers by. Fights were being fought all around the track, and the occasional lapped car moved out of the way in a very professional manner, so the leaders did not have as much of a problem as most expected.

It wasn't all too easy to drive the cars around as almost all of the leaders came close to spinning at one point, usually while fighting fiercely for positions. It was a miracle not more cautionflags were shown, but everybody seemed to be paying attention during the latter half of the race, and thus there was a 94 lap green race for the finish.

Walden was clearly the fastest driver, and he managed to lap everybody but second placed Bart van Nevel. At the finish it was Walden in first, Bart van Nevel in second, one lap down it were Koen van Nevel and Raymond Sagius. The fifth spot went to Brian Needham who was four laps down from winner Walden.

With this win, Walden closes the gap to current points leader Sagius, and Bart van Nevel is gaining aswell. If the drivers manage to keep their current forms the 2002 European Challenge Series will be a close battle between several drivers.

dank je Stijn

800 keer naar links en éénmaal naar rechts sturen voor de pits.

2 gele vlaggen voor 200 rondjes, echt leuk en spannende gevechten voor positie.

I like short ovals
