Jaguar & Peugeot Keen On Scv8

The new SCV8 Supercar Championship announced last week is gaining momentum thanks to a positive response from manufacturers. Jaguar and Peugeot have already offered support for the series.

550bhp, V8 powered X Types and 406s could therefore be amongst the first cars to be entered for next year's races. The simplicity of the regulations should mean that manufacturers can get cars on track shortly after their launch, making the series a powerful marketing tool.

Peugeot UK Head of Motorsport, Mick Linford commented, “The SCV8 Supercar Championship brings a fresh approach to saloon car racing and is certainly a series that opens up new opportunities to manufacturers. The unique design approach also means that new models can quickly be introduced into the Championship which could add a special dimension to any manufacturers launch programmes, with the car being seen on track at the same time that it is introduced on the road.”

The new SCV8 Supercar Championship is well advanced in its development with the championship programming pending MSA approval in the near future.

New SCV8 series should spice things up nicely!

There's a new championship about to be launched and it could fill a nice little niche in the UK race scene.

The last few years have seen the British Touring Car Championship degrade from the heady days of exciting saloon racing into hot hatch racing. Whilst it still draws huge crowds and some good racing there are many who yearn to see big, powerful saloons dicing with each other. Classic saloon racing is alive and well, but there are few contemporary saloons rubbing door handles currently.

That could be about to change with the new SCV8 Supercar Championship. Next year we could see V8 powered, 550bhp rear wheel drive saloons racing.

The formula is in its final stages of prepartion and plans so far are for two races per meeting and will feature popular mid range, four door saloons. The organisers are hoping that the grid of twenty cars will comprise of Jaguars, Audis, MGs, Peugeots, Fords and more.

The regulations will written in a manner intended to keep costs considerably lower than those incurred by the top touring car teams.

The team are planning to run the series on the same billing as the current British GT and F3 tour, no doubt boosting the popularity of that tour considerably. A terrestrial TV package is also planned
