De overname van Super Aguri is (tijdelijk?) mislukt, krijgen we Arrows Spa 2002 toestanden?

The likelihood is that whatever the outcome of the talks over the next 24 hours, the team will almost certainly participate in some form in Spain this weekend.

Should a team miss a race completely, then they forfeit certain rights, including television money, under their commercial terms with Formula One Management.

When the Arrows team hit financial difficulties in the middle of the 2002 season, their cars sometimes deliberately failed to qualify so they could officially state that they were part of an event.

Super Aguri heeft dan toch meegedaan aan deze race.
De Spaanse GP is al jaren een processie van wagens, dat was nu ook het geval. Maar toch heb ik een redelijk aangename GP gezien. Verschillende inhaalpogingen, veel kapotte vleugels. Een kapotte velg / band voor Kovalainen en enkele kapotte motoren.
Verder ook tweemaal een safety car procedure. En deze keer niemand die een brake test doet om zijn achtervolger te doen crashen.
De Ferrari's waren duidelijk te snel voor de rest. McLaren klampt aan en Kubica brengt zijn BMW aan de finish als 4e, net na Hamilton. McLaren gaat nog mogen uitkijken voor BMW.
Al bij al toch een GP waar ik vol aandacht naar heb gekeken.

Naar het schijnt zijn er maar 6.5 miljoen Engelse ponden nodig om het team de rest van het seizoen te laten afmaken:

Sources have told autosport.com that Weigl chief Franz Josef Weigl was at last weekend's Spanish Grand Prix for talks with Super Aguri.

It is believed that he has been offered a deal to get involved in the outfit as long as he is willing to bankroll the team for the rest of the season, a figure believed to be around £6.5 million.

Gezien de reacties een saaie GP, had Bas Leinders dan toch gelijk?:

The race at a great little track near the Circuit de Catalunya has become a social highlight of the season, and each year it gets more competitive and more serious – although still a hell of a lot of fun.

The event was won by former Grand Prix driver Marc Surer's Premiere 1 outfit again, with ex F1-test driver Bas Leinders helping his Belgian friends to second.

And Leinders summed it up perfectly afterwards. "Well, that's the only overtaking and proper racing we are going to see all weekend…"

Het ziet er niet goed uit voor Super Aguri. De trucks die de reserve-onderdelen van het team transporteren mogen de paddock in Istanbul niet binnengaan. Misschien is dit dan het definitieve einde van Aguri & Co?
