Heinz-Harald Frentzen could replace Felipe Massa at Sauber for the US GP if the German shows competitive pace when he tests for the team for the first time at Silverstone on Thursday.

With Massa penalised 10 places on the starting grid at Indy after his collision with Pedro de la Rosa at Monza, Sauber is looking at replacing the Brazilian, but is unsure whether Frentzen will be able to comfortably fit in the C21 cockpit.

"The decision of the stewards at Monza to relegate Felipe by 10 grid positions at the Indy race forced us to think about alternatives," said team boss Peter Sauber. "Only the test at Silverstone will finally show whether Heinz-Harald will be able to drive competitively in this seating position. All further decisions will depend on the outcome of the test."

Frentzen has not raced in Formula 1 since driving for Arrows in the German GP and was a little surprised to be given the opportunity to get back on the grid this year.

"Peter Sauber phoned me on Monday and informed me about the new situation," he said. "I would be very happy if I could drive for Sauber at Indianapolis."

Frentzen was confirmed as Nick Heidfeld's 2003 team-mate at Sauber last month. He previously drove for the team from 1994-1996, taking one podium finish.

Tja, ik vind het goed voor Frentzen, ... maar ook spijtig voor Massa. Ik blijf volhouden dat Massa beter is dan zijn roeping!

Maar Frentzen in de Sauber? Op RTBF gaf Vingeron nog mee dat de Sauber volgens Frentzen gebouwd was "pour des midgets'.
Frentzen lijkt dus te groot voor de Sauber.

ik vindt dat de straf van de FIA zo zonder doel blijft voor sauber maar juist veel erger voor massa. Als alle teams zo geeen beginnen dan ram je er de ene race iemand uit en pakt er de volgende wel iemand van je over.

Dit vind ik toch allemaal wat overdreven... en het is zo on-Peter Sauber.
Het hangt er gewoon vanaf of Frentzen donderdag kan plaatsnemen in de Sauber om te gaan testen. Zo ja, staat Massa aan de kant in Indy.
Dan hadden ze Ralfke na zijn eerste jaar bij jordan ook terug moeten shotten naar de Formula Nippon.
Het is nu éénmaal een jonge kerel en hij is nog wild...maar het talent is volgens mij wel degelijk aanwezig en dat het dankzij zo'n politiek verloren zou gaan zou een grote zonde zijn. Kijk eens naar Fisichella...

Frentzen snelste vandaag in silverstone , maar op t einde wel ne crash , eigenlijk is er weinig veranderd bij sauber zelfs de lay-out is amper geevolueerd in 6jaar

Frentzen en antwerpenaar Jacky Eeckelaert. (waarvan de vader mijn oma nog heeft gekend, woonachtig in de Schermersstraat. In die Schermersstraat is er bijvoorbeeld een garage waar pa Eeckelaert een vernunftig liftsysteem voor auto's eigenhandig gebouwd heeft, niet slecht )
