odriguez wins Radio 50, Sigwarth clinches track championship - October 1, 2002
NASHVILLE, Tennesse -- Victor Rodriguez made it two in a row again tonight at Fairgrounds Speedway when he won the Radio 50 from the Millenium Collectibles Pole. The driver of the No. 117 car also became the winningest driver with four victories in only seven races he competed in.
Rodriguez narrowly edged out Hendrik Gerhardt in Millenium Collectibles Pole Qualifying. However, Gerhardt's race was over when spun right on the first lap coming out of turn two.
Erwin Zeemering, still looking for his first feature win at Fairgrounds Speedway, made contact with Andy Geldmacher late in the race while battling for second. Stefan Sigwarth therefore inherited the second spot and finished runner-up, several car-lengths seconds behind Rodriguez.
Victor van Eck finished a career-high third, with the ageless Bryce Allen coming home fourth. Fifth was Geldmacher with Zeemering in sixth, the final car on the lead lap.
Holding a 14-point lead coming into the race, Stefan Sigwarth took the inaugural track championship by the virtue of starting the event. Zeemering, scoring top-5s in 9 of 10 races, wound up second, 22 points behind, with Gerhardt 28 points behind in third.
In the European Championship, LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway points leader Helmut Eimann only neeeds a top-10 finish on Thursday to win the track championship at the West Salem, WI track and the European title as well.
