Wow, FIA grijpt radicaal in om de dominantie van BMW te beperken.
The Touring Car Bureau has decided to reduce the minimum weight of the front-wheel drive cars by 20 kg, for this weekend’s FIA World Touring Car Championship event in Silverstone.
This is the first intervention of the Bureau, that was established at the beginning of the year with the task of taking quick decisions about technical and sporting matters. In this case, the intervention was inspired by Article 83 of the FIA WTCC Sporting Regulations, that enables the Bureau to adjust the minimum weight of the cars at any time during the season, in order to keep performances balanced.
The decision was the following: “After consideration of the time set during the first two events of the Championship, it has been decided that, for the Silversrtone event, the minimum weight of all the front-wheel drive cars will be reduced by 20 kg.”
Consequently, the minimum weight of the Alfa Romeo, Chevrolet, Ford, Honda and SEAT cars will be reduced from 1140 (1100 + 30 for use of the sequential gearbox) to 1120 kg.
