My eyes and mouth were wide open the whole time, and for about 10 minutes after I left the theatre I wandered around E3 completely oblivious as to where I was or what I was doing. It's worth noting that the demo took about 5 minutes just to load and that the frame rate did get choppy. Assuming this is running on a GF4 4600, I'd say it's time to start saving for nVidia's next generation technology with 64-bit color.
Doom3 is all about the lighting. It's absolutely amazing. And the physics are so well done you'd think you were watching a real-life movie, not real-time CG. When the hero dies and you see his hand limpy release his pistol... and then the monster... I shiver remembering it.
