Tumult in Amerikaans single-seater land! Tony George door familie op straat gezet!!

Eerder deze maand doken er in de media al berichten op dat George voor zichzelf een deadline had gezet en dat de IRL in 2013 winstgevend moest zijn. Op 4 mei j.l. maakte www.autosport.nl hier al melding van. Na een meeting op Indianapolis afgelopen dinsdagavond moest George als CEO het veld ruimen. De Raad van Bestuur van de Indy 500 bestaat uit zijn moeder Mari Hulman George, zijn zussen José, Nancy en Kathy evenals juridisch adviseur Jack Snyder.

Tony weg als CEO bij de Indy 500! Wel nog aan het roer als CEO van de IRL........maar welke waarde heeft dit nog? IRL is gebaseerd op de Indy 500. George is jarenlang de gulle sinterklaas geweest binnen de IRL met de centjes van de familie, denk aan chassis- en motordeals en bijvoorbeeld Vision Racing.

Het lijkt me qua car-count voor de IRL nou niet bepaald een heugenlijk feit. Breaking news van de eerste orde.........niet al te best voor de single seaters in de States.

Het ontslag is inmiddels ontkend.

Zonder het geld van de Indy 500 lijkt me Indycars ten dode opgeschreven.

Ik heb een tijdje geleden ergens kijkcijfers gezien van de eerste of tweede race van dit seizoen. Deze cijfers waren echt dramatisch. Ik meen dat er maar iets van 450.000 kijkers waren!

Hopenlijk trekken FIA en FOTA hun les hieruit. NASCAR heeft gewonnen met hun Grand AM DP's op een tweede plaats. De single seaters in the States? Niet meer dan een fetish voor enkele personen
