Géén Burns in WK Rally 2004
British rally star Richard Burns has been diagnosed with a brain tumour, which will force him to sit out next year's World Rally Championship.
The 32-year-old was forced to skip the Wales Rally GB after passing out at the wheel of his road car in the build-up to the event. Tests to determine the cause of the blackout have revealed that Burns has Astrocytoma. This is a form of tumour that develops on the brain's glial cells, which support and protect the nerve cells. Burns will be treated for the condition through a course of radiation, with doctors confident that this will prove successful. "I would really like to thank everyone for their continued support – it means a lot to me," said Burns. "My fans, the Peugeot WRC team and also everyone at Prodrive and Subaru have all been tremendous. The doctors have advised me that I am unable to get back in a rally car for the 2004 World Rally Championship and I have to accept that. "I'm obviously extremely disappointed but I am feeling very positive and I am determined to focus all of my efforts on getting back to full fitness as soon as I can." After two disappointing years at Peugeot Burns was due to return to Subaru, the team with whom he won the 2001 championship, next season. Erg voor Burns, dit breekt echt wel zijn carrière. Dit is idd een prachtige kans voor Mcrae. Of doet Makkinen er nog een jaartje bij

Ik hoorde het om 17.40 op "Wat is er van de sport" op Radio 1 in het naar huis rijden. Ik was echt met verstomming geslagen. 32 jaar en dan dit.
 Wel vertelden ze erbij dat de artsen in een volledige genezing geloven. Da's dan toch al een lichtpuntje. Ben niet echt een fan van Burns, maar bij deze toch spoedig beterschap toegewenst.

Dit is inderdaad jammer voor Burns , dit wenst niemand hem toe, ook al zijn we ook niet echt een fan. Hopelijk voor hem kan hij terugkomen.

spijtig voor Burns!
Bij deze heeft er voor 2004 nog geen enkele Brit een zitje in het WRC zeker? Ik weet niet in hoeverre David Richards nog aandelen heeft van Prodrive en in hoeverre hij de TV rechten nog bezit... maar ik gok op een landgenoot van Burns om hem te vervangen. C. McRae, A. McRae, G. Evans, M. Rowe (winnaar Gr. N 2003), N. Mcshea, ...

We hebben het er maandag na de film nog over gehad. Ford ging normaal deze week bekendmaken of ze al dan niet doorgaan met WRC. Dit is nog steeds niet gebeurd. Martin zou dan weer getekend hebben bij... Peugeot (vandaar misschien het plotse ontslag van Rovonpera). En wie zegt dat ze bij Subaru McRea wel willen? Hij was bij Citroën duidelijk de minste van de drie dit jaar. Wie weet jagen ze bij Subaru wel achter Duval
