Aston Martin Racing’s Fantastic Four to Contest Petit Le Mans

Aston Martin Racing has today announced its driver line-up for the penultimate round of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) at Road Atlanta on September 30.

The British team will not be recruiting two additional drivers, for the ten-hour, 1,000-mile, Petit Le Mans endurance classic. Instead, the team will leave the driving to Aston Martin Racing regulars, Tomas Enge (Czech Republic) and Darren Turner (UK) in the 007 DBR9 and Pedro Lamy (Portugal) and Stephane Sarrazin (France) in the 009 DBR9.

VAN DER STEUR'S RADICAL SHAKEDOWN ‘FLAWLESS'

Braselton, Ga. – Gunnar van der Steur could hardly contain his joy. Even a full day after his first shakedown with his team's new AER-powered Radical SR9, the praise and excitement was overflowing.

"Fantastic!" he exclaimed. "We had a flawless day, other than a little weather. We did 70 laps total and didn't have any issues. The car is so precise. It's such a rewarding feeling. It's nice to have something new that you can work with."

The all-day test Wednesday at Summit Point Raceway in Virginia went about as well as van der Steur Racing could have hoped. Both van der Steur, the team owner, and Ben Devlin drove about 35 laps each in the KUMHO-shod Radical. Both pilots agreed that the new car, which will debut at Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda CX-7, is light years ahead of the team's former Lola B2K/40.

De Radical zal dus waarschijnlijk zijn ALMS debuut maken

Ik had anders wel graag naar Piccini en Ortelli erbij gezien op de Astons, maar ze gaan dus voor 2 piloten per wagen. Maar Ortelli zit zowiezo op de Rizi Competizione voor de overige races, dus dat zat er zowiezo niet in. Ben benieuwd of zij opnieuw een GT2 overwinning op hun naam zullen kunnen schrijven. Al zullen ze weer hevige tegenstand krijg van Marc Lieb.
De strategie van AM zal er toch stukken anders uitzien dan die van Corvette...

Ik stem alvast af op Motors die dag...en tis te hopen dat de Astons ook de volgende 'battle' mogen winnen!

The Corvette C6.R’s will now run at 1150kg, as the ACO technical regulations state. The restrictor size and fuel capacity will remain the same for the yellow machines. The Aston Martin DBR9’s will remain unchanged, running at 1100kg.

Zytek met Johannson en Mowlem actief in laatste 2 ALMS races van 2006:

Zytek Motorsport will be competing in the final two rounds of the American Le Mans Series. The British outfit will run at the Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda CX-7 at Road Atlanta and at the final round in Laguna Seca. Stefan Johansson and Johnny Mowlem will team up to drive the Zytek 06S Hybrid in the two races.

“This is a new year and there is even stronger competition in the LMP1 class, but I believe we are up for the challenge”, said Zytek Motorsport’s Race Director Trevor Foster. “We are pleased to be returning to the ALMS this season to showcase our new Zytek 06S chassis and Zytek’s normally aspirated 4.0 litre V8 engine. We had a great deal of success in North America last season and our desire is to build on that success and prepare for an all out assault on the ALMS Championship and 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2007”.

Zytek is currently finalizing its commercial program for this season and for 2007 and will announce the team partners in the near future.

B-K Motorsports zullen hun wederoptreden maken te Road Atlanta nadat de wagen de vorige 4 races niet van de partij was door een zware crash in limerock. Ik heb het over deze wagen :

De Belgische Fin Markus Palttala betwist volgende week Petit Le Mans in een Ferrari 430 GTC van het Italiaanse Risi Competizione. Palttala zal aan de zijde van Stéphane Ortelli de overwinning in GT2 trachten weg te kapen.

Enkele teams zijn al begonnen met testen op Road Atlanta :

A pair of GT entrants completed the Friday lineup. Aston Martin Racing's two green Aston Martin DBR9s circulated the track throughout the day, mainly conducting tire tests with Pirelli. Stephane Sarrazin drove the Mosport-winning No. 009 entry with Tomas Enge in the No. 007. Neither car had trouble, but they also weren't running full speed and full stints either.

One of the first cars out was Intersport Racing's Lola B05/40-AER. Four drivers shared time in last year's winning LMP2 entry: race drivers Clint Field, Jon Field and Liz Halliday, along with team sponsor Richard Berry.

BMW Team PTG's two BMW M3s turned their first laps at Road Atlanta since 2003, the last time the team competed at Petit Le Mans

Aside from Penske's two Porsche RS Spyders (with all six drivers already in Atlanta), a pair of Ferrari F430GTs from Risi Competizione also were in the paddock, waiting for track time Saturday. Flying Lizard Motorsports' No. 44 Porsche is scheduled to test, as is the van der Steur Radical SR9-AER.

Hopelijk haalt Risi net zo'n goede resultaten als de laatste keer in Mosport. En ondertussen heeft Ortelli toch al redelijk wat ervaring met de wagen na de 24 uren en de vorige twee races in de ALMS.
Leuk voor Markus dat hij deze kans krijgt trouwens.

Dat wordt harde concurrentie voor Marc Lieb.

Ik geef de Risi F430 #62 met bemanning Stephane ''It's magic'' Ortelli, Ralf '' Keeping it steady'' Kelleners en Markus ''Flying Fin'' Palttala de meeste kans GT2 te winnen

Ortelli is gewoonweg wereldklasse. Een man die steeds wil winnen, zich ook kan wegcijferen in functie van zijn team, maar zijn ambities nooit onder stoelen of banken steekt. Na de FIA GT 24u van Spa interviewde ik hem voor Speed Action en Vodafone Live. Toen ik hem feliciteerde met zijn tweede plaats in GT2 was zijn eerste repliek: "C'est bien pour le team, nous prenons le maximum des points. Mais moi, je ne suis pas venu à Spa pour terminer sur la 2ème manche du podium. J'ai des bonnes mémoires à ce circuit, et si je viens à Spa, c'est pour gagner. Mais bon, pour le team ce résultat n'est pas mal du tout."

Ortelli is dus niet snel tevreden. Dat hoeft ook niet, met een dergelijk palmares als dat van hem. De 'kleine' Monegask heeft al genoeg bewezen dat hij tot de absolute top behoort in de GT-racerij en heeft ook bij de proto's al zijn visitekaartje afgegeven. Het zal misschien steeds een droom van mij blijven, maar ik zou verdomd graag Stéphane Ortelli en Marc Goossens eens samen willen zien aantreden op bvb een Porsche 997 GT3-RSR... Zet er dan voor een etmaalrace nog Anthony Kumpen, Mark Lieb of Markus bij, en ik ga helemaal zweven... Ik zal maar blijven dromen...

In elk geval een goede zaak voor onze sympathieke Vliegende Fin dat hij samen met Ortelli kan aantreden. Let's
